Dates For The Diary

Now that we are past our church weekend and into November it feels safe enough to share some dates for the diary for November and for Christmas!

Although we  don’t want to begin Christmas too early we’ve been making some plans before the surge is upon us. It’s good that we’re able to return to some ministry activities that we had to cancel last year due to Covid19 or at least host online. Please keep the following dates in mind.

Saturday 20th November: We’re partnering with Thornliebank Parish Church to run a joint quiz to raise funds for Tearfund. This is billed as The Big Quiz Night’ and churches across the U.K. are taking part. It’s at 7pm at Thornliebank Parish Church.

Sunday 21st November: Our AGM is taking place and we’re delighted to be able to hold this in person this year.

Thursday 2nd December: We will be making an early Christmas donation to the Foodbank at Carnwadric Parish Church. Our monthly donations have been well received and greatly appreciated.

Sunday 5th & 12th December: Neighbourhood Chaplaincy visits will continue throughout November and December and we will also be delivering some N.C. Christmas cards in the area on these dates.

Friday 10th December: The panto is back this year and we have our tickets from last years cancellation. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but the young people (and not a few leaders!) enjoy the Christmas party followed by a night at the panto!

Friday 17th December: Christmas Carols will be in full swing as we hold our Carol Service at Thorntree Hall at 7pm.

Saturday 18th December: The Christmas Fair returns to Thorntree Hall with some stalls, refreshments, games and even Santa making an appearance!  There will be an opportunity to help us promote the Christmas Fair and Carol service as we advertise in the local community and deliver some leaflets.

Sunday 19th December: Sunday completes a busy Christmas weekend with our Christmas service being lead by the young people at South Glasgow Church followed by some Christmas refreshments.

Monday 20th December: Project Present is taking place again this year and we will be delivering our presents in the local area on this date. In previous years we have delivered to families through the Social Work Department and the local Sheltered Housing.

Ignite Youth: The Ignite youth group will be meeting as usual throughout November and December where we’ll look a bit closer at the message of Christmas together. In the past SGC youth have been part of a carol service at the local sheltered housing and we may be able to do this again this year. More details to follow.

Early 2022! We recently ran a short discussion group based on Christianity Explored with some visitors to the church and we look forward to running Hope Explored which is released in January 2022. We already have people interested in doing this together and if you would like to invite someone and join us please do so.
