Dates For The Diary

Now that we are past our church weekend and into November it feels safe enough to share some dates for the diary for November and for Christmas!

Although we  don’t want to begin Christmas too early we’ve been making some plans before the surge is upon us. It’s good that we’re able to return to some ministry activities that we had to cancel last year due to Covid19 or at least host online. Please keep the following dates in mind.

Climate Change 2

Following our recent series on climate change our Ignite youth group were thinking about what they can do to help reduce their environmental footprint. They were tasked with using this calculator as a measure and they’re also hoping to make some suggestions about how we can do better as a church! Of course the whole subject raises important questions about how to approach this issue and a few do’s and dont’s based on our group discussion may be helpful.

Secularism

A few months ago our church seminar was about  secularism and we made use of Charles Taylor’s weighty book as well as  a more digestible book from The Gospel Coalition. This interview with Carl Trueman is a great follow up as it touched on similar themes from our seminar as well as introducing other thinkers and themes  in a down to earth, easy to follow manner. I hope to get round to Trueman’s book at some point in the future!

Climate Change 1

As we approach Cop26 here in Glasgow climate change is on the forefront of our minds. Our Ignite Youth group will be attending Equip this week where the new season kicks off by looking at this important subject. We are then doing a mini series of our own as a youth group using some video resources available through the Tearfund website. There is also an upcoming event online being organised through the Evangelical Alliance which is to help equip, resource and inform churches on climate and racial justice issues. Hopefully these resources will be helpful for us all.
